The oil industry experts at the St1 refinery in Gothenburg are dedicated to refining liquid fuels that are designed for the demanding driving conditions in the Nordic countries. All our products meet the local and European standards for traffic fuels.
Our goal is to reduce fossil CO₂ emissions in traffic step-by-step by bringing smart and more environmentally friendly fuels into the market.
All biofuels we sell fulfill EU and National sustainability criteria set by the law and are covered by officially approved sustainability schemes, such as ISCC, International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (https://www.iscc-system.org/) and National sustainability schemes (Finland, Sweden, Norway). Furthermore, they fulfill the minimum GHG reduction requirement of 50% set by the law, and are traceable.
Premium liquid fuels are one of the cornerstones of our strategy, and we are continuing to develop premium products for Nordic customers. It is important to introduce smart and environmentally friendly fuels that can be used in ordinary combustion engines, because they will dominate traffic until 2030 and even years after that. Some of our recently launched products include:
95 E10 Extra petrol has been launched in our St1 retail network in Finland.
The previous 95 petrol sold in the Finnish Shell network has been replaced by Shell FuelSave 95 petrol. Both new premium products reduce fuel consumption, which makes them less expensive to use.
1st Renewable fuels – 1st Bensin RE+ and 1st Diesel RE+ – now available in the St1 retail network in the Gothenburg area, offer the highest guaranteed bio content available for standard diesel and gasoline cars on the Swedish fuel market.
The advanced ethanol, which we biorefine from feedstocks outside food chain, is used as a biocomponent in petrol. It is also used in unique RE85 high-blend ethanol fuel that reduces fossil CO₂ emissions from traffic by up to 80%. RE85 is available in our Finnish retail network and it can be used in flexfuel vehicles. We also produce biogas from waste.
A new biorefinery is under construction on the St1 refinery site in Gothenburg. The biorefinery will have an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes of renewable fuels production and is expected to commence its operations in 2023. It is designed to optimize production of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel.
The St1 and Shell retail stations offer high-quality fuel products for all kinds of vehicles.
