St1 invests in solar energy

St1 continues its investments in energy transition and is now expanding its production portfolio to include a solar park in Risholmen, Gothenburg. When the facility is operational in the third quarter of 2024, it will produce renewable electricity equivalent to the consumption of approximately 3,500 households* per year. The electricity that is produced will be connected and sold on the commercial electricity grid.

Svea Solar has been contracted to build the solar park and Sweco has been commissioned to act as project managers of the construction. When the solar park is completed, it will cover 7 hectares of land, have an installed capacity of 9.5 MW, and produce 8,5 GWh per year.

Solar energy, like wind power, is an important action towards St1’s vision of becoming a leading producer and seller of CO2-aware energy.

– The part of Risholmen area where the panels will be located is owned by St1 and it is a perfect location for solar panels, its proximity to the sea means we get more hours of sunlight,” says Oskar Bengtsson, Manager strategic projects, St1 Refinery AB.

*Counted on the average consumption of 2500 kwh per apartment, per year in Sweden.
